Rates and time bands
NDIS time bands: evening, night, weekend and public holiday rates
The same support has up to six NDIS item numbers, one for each time band, and each pays a different price. Which one you bill is set by when the shift ran, start and finish, not by what you booked.

The short answer
Weekday daytime is a shift that starts at or after 6am and ends by 8pm. Weekday evening starts at or after 8pm and finishes by midnight. Weekday night runs past midnight or starts before 6am. Saturday, Sunday and public holidays are whole days.
A shift that crosses from one band into another bills whole, at the higher rate. For self-care in 2026-27, a weekday daytime hour is up to $73.58 and a Sunday hour up to $133.50.
The six time bands
These are the definitions in the NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27, in force from 24 September 2026, in plain words. Prices are the 2026-27 national limits for standard self-care.

A shift that crosses a band bills whole, at the higher rate
The Pricing Schedule 2026-27, Part 1, under "Day and time": where a support crosses between different times of day or days of the week and is delivered by a single worker, the higher of the amounts applies to the whole support. The 2025-26 Pricing Arrangements said the same.
So you don't split the shift into two lines. A 7pm to 9pm shift is two hours of weekday evening, not one hour of daytime and one of evening. A Friday 11pm to 2am shift is three hours of Saturday.

National limits. Remote and very remote areas have higher limits, in the price guide.
Public holidays depend on your state
A public holiday is a whole-day band, and which days count depends on the state or territory where you deliver the support. Labour Day falls on a different Monday in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, and Easter Saturday is a holiday in some states and not others.
Three are part-day holidays: Christmas Eve from 6pm in Queensland, and Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve from 7pm in South Australia and the Northern Territory. A shift that runs into one of those bills whole at the public holiday rate, like any other shift that crosses a band.
George works out the band from your state and the shift's own times, and names any date it won't guess, like a holiday a state proclaims each year. See how to invoice the NDIS for the rest of what goes on the line.
Common questions
Is a 10pm to 2am shift evening or night?
Night, all of it. An evening shift has to finish by midnight. A weekday shift that runs past midnight into the next weekday is a weekday night shift.
Do I split a shift that crosses into the next band?
No. When one worker delivers the whole support, the NDIS Pricing Schedule says the higher of the two prices applies to the whole support. Bill it as one line at the higher band.
Which date goes on the invoice for an overnight shift?
The date the shift started. The line is priced off the band and the price list for that shift.
Does a public holiday in another state count?
No. Public holidays depend on the state where the support is delivered. Queensland's Labour Day isn't a holiday in New South Wales, and some states have part-day holidays, like Christmas Eve evening in Queensland.
Is a sleepover billed by the hour?
No. A night-time sleepover is one price per night, whatever the day. It's in the price guide.
